The Revenant, The Intern, Weekend Picks

Oscars movies homework is in full swing. We start with The Revenant. Is this the one in the favorite position? You should come for the camera work–is there anything to stay for?

Bob mini reviews The Intern.

In weekend picks, Logan mentions Baskets, Portlandia, Beowulf, and The X-Files. Bob touches on Dirty Grandpa, The Boy, and Synchronicity, but leans towards catching up on Oscars movies instead.

The Big Short, Battlefront, Homeland, Learning to Drive, Weekend Picks

Happy New Year! We’re deep into reviewing the Oscars contenders, and this week The Big Short is up. How does it work as a quasi-documentary? Is this kind of movie’s appeal based on being close to the events?

Bob mini reviews Battlefront and Learning to Drive. Logan mini reviews Homeland.

In weekend picks, Logan will be watching the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Shameless, and the final season of American Idol. Bob mentions Sherlock, Anesthesia, The Treasure, and Revenant. Check Twitter for our final choice.

It’s the end of the year, which means there’s a ton for us to review! Star Wars: The Force Awakens is our full review this week. We bend over backwards to avoid spoilers–we know how crazy people can get about that. Does it work as a standalone movie? Is it Practically Endorsed(tm)?

In weekend picks, Logan mentions Mozart in the Jungle, the Sherlock Christmas Special, and The Bachelor. Bob talks about The Hateful Eight. We’ll review either that or The Big Short or both next week.
